For the past 4 years we have formed multiple teams of 11 people each to run the Wolfson 55k Challenge relay to benefit children we know that are battling/have battled life-threatening illnesses. This race touches our heart because of the amazing cause and how many can children that can be helped through the money raised.
One of the kids we have run for is sweet Elsie who was diagnosed before she was born with a heart defect called Tetralogy of Fallot with Pulmonary Atresia. We ran for her when she was a baby and again this year. This year we also added another little boy, Mason Escobar, battling Leukemia.
We gathered at 6:30am on race day, grabbed a group photo and then started our relay! The loop was different than years past but was a nice out and back course, with each loop finishing on the baseball field. Besides the relay, there was a 30k and 50k ultra race as well as a 1-mile fun run- so there was a large amount of runners ou
t there. We finished shortly before 2pm and the event was over at 3pm.
Seeing all of the children that have fought or are still fighting through their life-threatening illnesses is truly inspiring and we can’t wait to run for them all next year! If you have not participated in this event yet, I urge you to consider forming a team or running the ultra next year. You can find more information here. https://www.wolfsonchildrenschallenge.com
