img_5907 I had a pretty busy race season from November through December but the one race I was truly looking forward to was the Divas Half Marathon in St Augustine. It is mainly a women’s race, A few brave men come out to run but they are far outnumbered by the amount of women out there. This is a race you should register early for to benefit from the lower registration price because it does get pricey a couple months before the race… so register early!

They had everything so well organized, it was flawless. You could park at Flagler Hospital and they had shuttles taking everyone over to the start. We parked at the YMCA since a friend I was running with was a member. There were plenty of port-a-potties with short lines, water and great adrenaline pumping music going as you waited to go to the start line.

We headed to the start with our group.  We had one friend doing her first half marathon so we all stuck together and had so much fun! It was typical Florida weather that day: hot and humid, which made for a tougher race. The course started and finished at the pier, ran down A1A and into Anastasia State park and even got a great view of the Lighthouse. The aid stations and volunteers were well stocked and enthusiastic. At around the last 1/2 mile of the race they had a feather boa and tiara station and as you ran by they passed them out to you to glam yourself up before crossing that finish line. You felt like a true Diva!

As you crossed the finish line they announced your name and a volunteer had water for you. Then, you got a delicious pink drink from Kinky Pinky and your medal presented to you by local firefighters.  You felt like a VIP going through there! We snapped some group pictures and headed to the post race food where there was the biggest selection of post race snacks I have ever seen at a race- from fruit to chips to cookies and everything in between.

Every year I come back to do this race because of the atmosphere and the fun time I have running with my girlfriends. They put on such a well organized race with such high standards it’s hard not to come back and run it again! Not to mention, one of the best medals I have ever gotten, which of course is the reason we all do races isn’t it ;).
Registration will be opening up soon so why not put this race on your schedule this year to do! Check back soon for a special discount code too.
